Brevard is home to the famous White Squirrel and The White Squirrel Shoppe. Also a vibrant hub for the arts where you’ll find over 17 galleries and studios. This charming downtown has long been a destination for shopping and entertainment. Brevard is host to several annual festivals and special events. The Brevard Music Festival, The White Squirrel Festival, Mountain Song Festival, Assault on the Carolina’s bike race just to name a few. Restaurants and Breweries continue to offer a wide variety of dining choices. Rocky’s Grill & Soda Shop, is an iconic American diner serving nostalgic food and old fashion milkshakes. Try the upscale cuisine at The Square Root also known for its architectural and artistic décor. For the beer connoisseur, no trip would be complete without a visit to Oskar Blues and Sierra Nevada Breweries for popular hand crafted beers. Places to Visit
Plan time to visit the local museums and historical sites both downtown and in the surrounding area. With so much to do, you will find yourself planning to return year after year. Transylvania Heritage Museum and the Silvermont Mansion are both located in Brevard. While the Carl Sandburg Home National Historic Site with beautiful walking trails and goat farm is in nearby Flat Rock. To learn about the pioneer days, visit the Cradle of Forestry in Pisgah National Forest. And don’t miss your chance to get wet at Sliding Rock, a 60 foot natural water slide.
Surprisingly, right up the road just north of Brevard is Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute where the Mineral and Meteorite Museum lives. This also happens to be a former NASA tracking station! And just a little further in Ashville is the world famous Biltmore House & Gardens and the Winery, shops, and restaurants of Antler Hill Village.
